Attendee of the "Ball Des Victims."
After the "Reign of Terror" some reemerging aristocrats would dress as guillotine victims and hold exclusive morbid balls wearing red neck chokers, thin night gowns, and short cut hair. Only those who had lost a close relative to the guillotine or narrowly escaped it themselves were admitted. These balls are believed to have helped bring about the trend for a shorter hairstyle, aptly known as a coiffure a la victime.
